Notice of Sanken Electric’s Discontinuation of the Use of E-mails with Password-Protected Compressed File Attachments

Sanken Electric Co., Ltd.

Effective from 3:00 p.m. on February 8, 2024, Sanken Electric Co., Ltd. (“the Company”) will change its policy on how it handles password-protected compressed files in e-mail accounts used by the Company’s employees to perform their duties. Going forward, the Company intends to take measures to automatically delete these types of files. We kindly request the understanding and cooperation of our customers and business partners with this change in policy.

Through these measures, the e-mail body will be transmitted to the recipient, but any password-protected compressed file attachments will be deleted from the e-mail message. Because a deletion notification will not be sent to the sender, please confirm how you will send and receive such files with the person in charge (recipient) at the Company.

Background and Purpose
In light of recent cybersecurity conditions, we reviewed our policy on the handling of e-mails with password-protected compressed file attachments. These files are encrypted, making e-mail security checks extremely difficult. Because of the increased usage of these files as infection routes for malware such as Emotet, an increasing number of companies are discontinuing the use of such file attachments. For this reason, the Company will discontinue the use of password-protected compressed files in order to further strengthen security protection for its customers and business partners.
