What business is Sanken Electric engaged in?

Our major business includes the manufacture and sale of semiconductors and power supply equipments, as well as related services. Major business fields are power electronics and associated fields, providing major products as follows:

What are Sanken products used for?

Automotive products, which are being computerized increasingly, account for more than 50 percent of sales of our semiconductor products. These days, we are expanding the sales of semiconductor products for home electrical appliances (air conditioners, refrigerators, washers, etc.), which are saving energy increasingly.
Our switching power supplies are extensively used for office equipment including printers, facsimiles, copiers, as well as AC adapters for laptop PCs.
Power supply equipment is broadly categorized into custom power supply equipment and general -purpose power supply equipment. Major products of the former category include UPS for telephone station and products for government and other public office(i.e.public-related work) and electric power company. Major products of the latter category include computer terminals, compact UPSs for servers, VVVF inverters, etc.,
which corporate clients invest in for information enhancement and power saving.

What is the history of the Company?

In October 1937, the late Yasuzaemon Matsunaga, President of Toho Electric Power Co., Ltd. established The Toho Industrial Research Laboratory as a research institution for science and technology. At this Laboratory, the late Tetsuji Kotani (the founder of Sanken Electric) conducted experiments and research on semiconductor, etc. At the end of World War II, the Laboratory was dissolved and Mr. Kotani took over the engineers and facilities to establish Toho Sanken Electric Co., Ltd. on September 5, 1946. The Company was listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in October 1961 and, in June 1962, the Company was renamed Sanken Electric Co., Ltd. the present name. The Company was listed on the Second Section of the Osaka Securities Exchange in October 1969 and was re-listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the Osaka Securities Exchange, respectively, in August 1970. Why was the Company named "Sanken Electric"?

The company has its roots in a research institute "Toho Industrial Research Laboratry" Which was established before World War II. After the War, some of the members of the institute incorporated it and named the company "Toho Sanken Co.,Ltd." in order to emphasize the technology-oriented feature as "San" means Industry in English and "Ken" means Research Lab.Finally in 1962, by taking out "Toho" it has been simplified and changed to the current name "Sanken Electric Co.,Ltd."
