During his seven-year tenure since he took the office in 1999, Yuji Morita has led the Company through a series of 2 Midterm Management Plans toward the goal of realizing a self-sustaining growth company; he placed into action such initiatives as profitability reforms by turning around underperforming operations, growth strategy centered around the business of cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) for liquid crystal display (LCD) backlights, and closer collaborations among group companies. As a result of these actions, the Company has shown a recovery of its fortune in 2001 and achieved consecutive sales and profit growths. |

Taking the historic opportunity of the Company's sixtieth anniversary of its founding this year, the Company decided to renew its executive leadership in order to accelerating its drive for a more growth and expansion-oriented operations and to pursue aggressive management, through such arrangements as delegation to the next generation of management talent the work of designing and implementing the new Midterm Management Plan to be started in April. |
