BR300, MPM01, and MPM04
Incorporate key components such as coils to reduce design work and save space

 

Sanken today announced the development of three types of step down chopper DC/DC converter modules: BR300 with an output current of 1.0 A, and MPM01 and MPM04 with an output current of 3.0 A. Samples of the new converter modules will ship from May 2012 at a unit price of JPY 1,000 for BR300 and JPY 1,600 for MPM01 and MPM04.

Mass production is scheduled to begin in June 2012 at an initial scale of 50,000 units per month for BR300 and in August 2012 at an initial scale of 50,000 units per month total for MPM01 and MPM04. Mass production is to be ramped up to a total of 150,000 units per month for all three types from April 2013.

   
1. Development Background and Product Overview
 

Electronic devices contain devices such as microcontrollers and LSIs that run on a range of different DC voltages. DC/DC converters are used to supply power to these components.
DC/DC converters composed of ICs, coils, and other such components required considerable development time and labor in the form of component selection, circuit design, and PC board pattern design. However, demands for decreased development time and labor are on the rise as the speed at which products are developed increases. With this in mind, Sanken has developed the BR300, MPM01, and MPM04 converter modules which enable DC/DC converters to be simply configured using only a few external components* because the key components such as ICs and coils are included in on the product.

* BR300:Requires only an I/O smoothing capacitor; MPM01 and MPM04: requires an I/O smoothing capacitor and output voltage setting resistor.
BR300 is available as a board type, reducing costs with its small output current of 1.0 A and minimal heat generation. In addition, a compact size (14 mm width x 14 mm depth x 10 mm height) is realized by using high-frequency switching technology.
MPM01 and MPM04 have a large output current of 3.0 A and generate large amounts of heat. Therefore, these modules are available as full mold packages that feature high heat resistance and a high-efficiency synchronous rectification circuit scheme. This enables continuous operation at an output current of 3.0 A without having to install a heat sink.
